SETTING THE BAR: LEGALLY BLONDE

Elle Woods sunbathing on the lawns of Harvard Law School in a sequinned pink bikini and a bouncy blonde ponytail.

If you needed further proof that, "hair is everything," look no further than the evidence provided by Legally Blonde 1 & 2. Tied into the title itself, the film's major plot points centre on (mostly blonde) hair. While we'd love to believe that Elle Wood's flawlessly toned Blonde was a result of the Herbal Essence box dye perched on her vanity- No.14 Amazon Gold, if you're curious; it was a much more complex feat brought to life by colourists Nancy Braun and Dawn Ellinwood. The pair worked with award winning stylists Joy Zapata and Linda Arnold to create a whopping 40 hairstyles for Reese Witherspoon's character alone.

Here's some of our favourite hair moments from the films.

Elle's signature Hollywood waves, perfectly parted and coiffed for her first day in court as a lawyer. Pink rhinestones and Birkin in tow.

Elle and Bruiser Woods making an entrance at Harvard as their fabulously camp selves.

Accessorised to the tens for cold weather in a plush purple coat, braids and a knitted cap complete with a floral accent.

Her well-meaning eccentric besties hair was always playful and made Elle's maximalism look sombre in comparison.

A blonde beehive cheering her on (legal) court side.

While Jennifer Coolige's character Paulette won us all over with her eccentricities and warmth, her hair was toned to reflect a "bad blonde." Orange tinged and slightly patchy, it reflected the hard time we find her in at the beginning of the film.

The Bend and Snap is an iconic moment where Paulette's character finds the courage to try the move on the delivery man in full force (with an accidental elbow to his nose).

Vivienne's character is the antithesis to Elle's- uptight, studious and taken seriously as someone worthy of marrying her ex. This painful reminder of Elle's perceived shortcomings is visualised through a decidedly brunette bob with minimal movement, anchored with a minimal hairband, pearls and big diamond ring.

The hair team brilliantly make a nuanced distinction between LA Blonde and New York blonde through Brooke Wyndham, Elle's first client who sports a honey hued blonde worthy of Carolyn Bassette Kennedy.

Elle brings her client a prison care package with the essentials, Clinique and the latest Cosmopolitan while sporting a straightened do.

Brooke's unmistakably Manhattan style was the gift that kept on giving.

Who needs a library when you have the white noise of a salon chair.

Bruiser Woods agrees.

We spend extra time in the salon chair for this perfectly bouncy ponytail too.

The perm that cracked the case- Chutney Wyndham's alibi was obliterated when Elle noted her curls would not be still intact had she showered right after her perm according to her testimony.
