Benee photographed by Matt Hurley before her Laneway performance. Hair by Coleen stylist Sean Patrick Mahoney, Makeup by Lochie Stonehouse and nails by Tanya Barlow.
Our alt pop darling Benee took to the stage at Laneway Festival in Tāmaki sporting a genre-blurring hair look by Colleen stylist Sean Mahoney, who described the look as a mix of “soft structure and lived in texture.”
If you’re ready to tap into your own carefree, main stage energy, here’s how to get the look!
YOU WILL NEED:
STEP 1: PREP
Spray Evo Icon Welder liberally through pre-washed, air dried hair.
STEP 2: FRONT/ FACE FRAME
Create clean front sections where you want the hair to sit flat. Once you’ve decided on your side parting, use a YS Park tail comb to keep sectioning super sharp and precise.
STEP 3: GEL AND SECURE
Apply Evo Gangsta Grip Gel in small sections, ensuring the product is evenly worked in through the hair. Then comb the hair flat against the face and secure with creaseless styling clips. Using a hair dryer on low heat, cool setting, low speed, gently set the gel around the clips.

STEP 4: BACK & TEXTURE
Working in 1-inch sections from the nape upwards, alternate your tools for a natural finish:
– GHD Chronos
– GHD Curve Thin Wand
Alternate both your tool choice and sectioning pattern as you move up the head to create an effortless, beach-dried texture rather than uniform waves.
STEP 5: FINISH
Finish with a light mist of Evo Theme Touchable Wax Spray for soft hold and movement.
