New York Fashion Week always delivers on drama, and this season's beauty moments were no exception. From sculptural hair hats to models taking makeup into their own hands, the NYC runways served up playful, unconventional takes on glamour - here are some of our faves.

At Rachel Comey's lowkey show - held outside on the street - there were no glam squads, but models doing their own hair and makeup backstage. She told Vogue, "as much as I love a large backstage production, producers and team members flying around with walkie talkies and clipboards, an intimate gathering with women putting their own lipstick on and chatting feels like a room I want to be in."
We love that, although also know the value of hair and makeup experts! While the idea fits Rachel's brand perfectly, we hope it doesn't become a cost-cutting device for others...

Hair stylist Mustafa Yanaz made intricate hats out of hair for the Collina Strada show, which had another novel concept: each model walked, followed by another black-clad model as their 'shadow self'.
The intricate hair hats came in various forms, including baseball cap versions and fluffy beanie styles made from a mix of real and synthetic hair. "Took us loooong to make these," he wrote on Instagram.

Anna Sui's signature bohemian and flirty aesthetic translated into a fun textured hair look, with hair stylist Garren describing it as "Victorian vibes made modern". The look was paired with 'blurred beauty' by Pat McGrath.

Smoking on the runway may have got the attention of Instagram, but the makeup at Eckhaus Latta was worth a closer look. Makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench was behind the distinctive white lash look.

Sandy Liang was signature doll-like whimsy - including a dress covered in panties - but these oversized button hair clips caught our eye.

Corsets and vintage-inspired spiral curls were major statements at Wiederhoeft's salon-style show, with styling tools working overtime to accentuate tight bouncy curls and natural coils. The hair lead was Kien Hoang, principal artist of global design for Oribe.

It was all about glossy glam at Christian Siriano, where hair artist Lacy Redway created sculpted, shiny "liquid waves".
