Some good news: colleen’s Hundred-Dollar-Haircut Day is back, with a fluffy twist.
On Sunday, November 16, our salon will be dedicating a day of cuts to raise funds for Pet Refuge, an organisation providing temporary shelter for pets from across Aotearoa whose owners are escaping domestic violence.

Domestic violence doesn’t just affect people – it affects the animals they love. For many women and families, fear for their pet’s safety is yet another barrier to leaving an abusive home.
Pet Refuge ensures dogs, cats, birds, chickens, horses and other pets have a secure, safe haven while their humans seek refuge, giving families one less heartbreaking choice to make.

“For families escaping violence, even a short delay in finding safety for their pets can add enormous stress to an already traumatic time,” says Pet Refuge founder and CEO Julie Chapman.
“We never want to turn away a pet in need. Our team works hard to make space available, and when we can’t, external boarding allows us to keep helping families escape violence together with their pets.”

With a recent increase in animal abuse cases linked to domestic violence, Pet Refuge’s shelters are also at full capacity. That’s why we knew they were the perfect organisation to support this Hundred-Dollar-Haircut Day.
